Terminology
Body Proportion - relationship of lengths of arms, legs torso, and neck
Instep - arch of the foot
Coordination - control ofmuscular activity (i.e. ability to do many different movements at the same time.
Line - aesthetic quality of all poses
Flexibility - a looseness of the limbs and joints
Turnout - outward rotation of the legs in the hip joint
Strength - ability to hold oneself correctly while executing steps
Alignment - correct vertical placement of te body (standing straight with shoulders and hips inline) with weight correctly placed
Use of Feet - articulation of feet and ability to consistently point one's feet while dancing
Port de Bras - carriage of the arms
Adage - sustained movement
Extension - the height at which a leg can be sustained with correct placement
Pirouettes - turns
Petit Allegro - small jumps
Batterie - beating of legs and feet during petit allegro
Grand Allegro - execution and connection of large jumps
Elevation & Ballon - degree of height and lightness in jumps
Pointe - degree of achievement in pointe technique
Musicality - following musical rhythms and dynamics
Movement Quality - expressive, flowing movement
Projection - presence, conveying of personality and emotion
Concentration - ability to focus
Motivation - inner drive to dance to the best of one's ability, always striving for improvement
Attendance - regularly participating in all scheduled classes
Attitude - positive, respectful approach to work, facilities, staff, volunteers and other students and their belongings
Behavior - adhere to the rules and social decorum of the school
Personal Improvement - the degree of progress made during the year
Effort - exertion of strength of power; physically and mentally
Energy - strength of expression, combined with strength given to movements and poses
